Homestead at Pu’u Mahoe

In the bowl of this cinder cone above Ulupalakua is a spectacular arboretum where endangered native plants are cared for.  In the distance is the old homestead of D.T. Flemming who had the foresight to create this beautiful place.  The island of Kaho’olawe floats in the distance.

On The Lava Fields

At Ahihi Kinau Reserve, past Makena, where lava most recently flowed on Maui.  The rocks are heated by the sun and cooled by the waves and wind.
